Day 12: I Am NOT Defined by My Status

“You are still a queen regardless if you have a King!” ~Videllia Davis

I’m so excited to kick off this second part of our #KnowYourWorth Series. This next section is all about relationships. I have found that many people diminish their own value in order to please others!!! But before we go too deep into that, let me first start by saying, you are NOT defined by your relationship status.

So many women and yes, even some men, look down upon themselves if they don’t have a significant other. “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get a man?” are the kinds of questions that they constantly ask themselves. Does that sound like you? That has definitely been my story on numerous occasions. Seeing my friends thrive in the love department and myself meeting only knuckleheads, I would find myself questioning my own value. “I’m simply not good enough.” “I’m not attractive enough.” “Something must be wrong with me.”

Then one day I realized something! I am STILL a QUEEN regardless if I have a King! That means I am still a valuable, strong, beautiful and amazing woman regardless if I have a man. And so are you! Stop allowing your family, friends, coworkers and ESPECIALLY social media/internet define your value by whether you have a title attached to your name. Your worth is not defined by your relationship status!

The key thing to remember is that YOU are who defines your worth. If you feel like you are only worthy when you have a guy/gal on your own then it’s time for you to learn to change your way of thinking. Everything starts within our minds! Tell yourself that you are still a QUEEN regardless if you have a King and walk around with your head held high!

#KnowYourWorthChallenge: What negative things have you told yourself about your worth when it comes to you being or not being in a relationship? What ways can you change your thoughts to help you redefine how you view your value and self-worth?

Day 10: Let’s Recap

Hey loves, Videllia here again! I just wanted to check in with you to see how you’re doing on this #KnowYourWorth journey. So far, we have gone into depth about what God says we’re worth from us being wonderfully created masterpieces to us being rare, royal, and precious flaws and all! Now we get to some of the good stuff – what is our worth when it comes to relationships. From my day 2 discussion yall know I’ve made terrible choices in men (haha). I can laugh about them now b/c that Videllia is gone (thank heavens). But I’ve learned a lot about my worth in relationships as a result of those experiences. Now this part of the series may shake some of you. If you got a boo, bae or situationship it may cause you to rethink about some things. Now don’t go telling your beau that Videllia said you needed to break up lol I don’t want those problems. However, I will encourage you to think about how you’re being treated, encourage you to pray on your situations and do whatever God is leading you to do. Are you ready to get started? The relationship part of the series starts tomorrow so be sure to tag a friend below that needs this (now I know yall know some people in some bad situations but you be tryna be nice and not say nothing to them…gone ahead and tag them below. I’ll say it for ya lol)

#KnowYourWorthChallenge:  I’d love to hear from you!  Comment below with what you think of the series so far or let me know if you have any questions!  🙂

Day 9: I Am a Precious Gem

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” ~Proverbs 31:10

I LOVE this verse. I don’t know – it kind of makes me extremely confident. If there was ever a question about how much I’m worth or should be worth to society it is answered with this scripture. Yesterday God told us that we were worth more than sparrows but he goes even further to say – if you still ain’t getting it then let me say it in some terms that you understand – you’re worth more than rubies to me girl!!! (Now that’s something I can understand 😉 )

He said I’m worth more than rubies. No if’s and’s or but’s about it. A ruby is considered to be one of the world’s most PRECIOUS gems. So of course I researched it (haha). I found that a ruby is formed in conditions of extreme heat and pressure. Further, some say that rubies are worth more than diamonds (which are said to be a girl’s best friend but I think it’s time we change that lol) because they are extremely RARE, are often HIDDEN and hard to find. Even still, rubies are rich in symbolism and are often used to convey ROYALTY. Still they are highly sought after because there’s no question that they are VALUABLE.

Precious? Rare? Royal? Valuable? Hidden?

Do you see God’s theme yet? He’s telling YOU (woman or man) that you are PRECIOUS, YOU are RARE, YOU were created to be ROYAL AND YOU are HIGHLY VALUABLE!!! Not only to him but to the whole world. That is why he has you HIDDEN in HIM! He has you shielded and protected so that only those out there who seek your highly valuable self will find you!!! :-*

#KnowYourWorthChallenge: Go buy yourself a ruby! Okay don’t do that because I don’t want you blaming me for going into debt lol. Instead, I want you to write down the words listed in all caps above on a piece of paper. Hang it on your fridge. Put in a frame and place it on your wall. Somewhere where you will always have a constant reminder of the PRECIOUS GEM that you are!

Day 8: I Am More Than A Sparrow

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” ~Luke 12:6-7

In my bible studies I’ve discovered that during biblical times sparrows were often offered as sacrifices in the temple. This is why they were sold at such a steep discount. I mean 5 sparrows for 2 cents. The accountant in me has to do the math – that’s approx. $.004 per sparrow. Talk about a discount! So, by using the word sparrows in the scripture above, God is telling us first: that he values even the smallest of creatures – the sparrow. He reaffirms that when he says not one of those sparrows are forgotten in his eyes. Because God finds the sparrow worthy he takes care of it. He loves it. He provides for it. I mean birds are in an abundance in our society. At least I know they are every time I check my car the next morning (darn bird poop! haha). So I know that God is providing them with everything that they need. And because of that, they keep on thriving.

God tells us that WE are worth even more than that to Him. Therefore, he will provide for us too! He will make sure that all of our needs are met. If it’s love we’re looking for, he will sustain our hearts with a love for him that will contain us until/unless he decides to add someone of value to our life. So we need to stop diminishing our worth and learn to keep on thriving. Stop reducing your worth because of society, insecurities, bad relationships, mistakes, heartbreak and so forth. God sees you as valuable dear. It is time for you to accept that and walk in that. Thrive on!

#KnowYourWorthChallenge: In what areas of your life have you diminished your worth? How can you change your thinking so that you can thrive on?

Day 7: I Am Flawed and Unashamed

“You are altogether beautiful my darling; there is no flaw in you.” ~Song of Sol 4:7

I am super excited to share a post on this scripture because it is the whole premise of my blog – “I Am Me: Perfectly Imperfect. Flawed and Unashamed”. I created my blog to inspire people, especially women, to be whole in themselves, comfortable in their perfect imperfections and unashamed of being who they were created to be.

I was going through a rough time after a break-up. I didn’t think I was pretty enough. Didn’t think my hair was long enough. Didn’t think I dressed sexy enough. Hated the mole that had developed on my face (even though now I love it, makes me feel like Tamera Mowry). And so forth. I was really down and depressed. Then someone encouraged me to read through the book of Song of Solomon. I was desperate to have my spirits lifted so I obliged. Now Song of Solomon can be a little, um, Rated R compared to the other books in the bible (haha).  HOWEVER, this verse stood out and spoke to me on so many levels!

Written by Solomon, influenced by God, this verse serves as a reminder that even those things we see as flaws within ourselves are perfect in God’s eyes. Therefore, we don’t have to be depressed, lose confidence or see ourselves as less than others (i.e. diminishing our value). Remember my Mona Lisa story on Day 5. Da Vinci’s painting was thought to have been flawed but it is STILL considered to be a masterpiece. So remember that honey. You are STILL a beautiful masterpiece – just the way you are!

#KnowYourWorthChallenge: Write down the 3 biggest “flaws” that you see in yourself. Recite this prayer – “Heavenly Father, I come right now praying that you bind negative thoughts that I have about and towards myself. Help me to see the perfections even in what I consider to be imperfections and walk knowing that regardless I am still beautiful in your eyes.”
