Day 8: I Am More Than A Sparrow

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” ~Luke 12:6-7

In my bible studies I’ve discovered that during biblical times sparrows were often offered as sacrifices in the temple. This is why they were sold at such a steep discount. I mean 5 sparrows for 2 cents. The accountant in me has to do the math – that’s approx. $.004 per sparrow. Talk about a discount! So, by using the word sparrows in the scripture above, God is telling us first: that he values even the smallest of creatures – the sparrow. He reaffirms that when he says not one of those sparrows are forgotten in his eyes. Because God finds the sparrow worthy he takes care of it. He loves it. He provides for it. I mean birds are in an abundance in our society. At least I know they are every time I check my car the next morning (darn bird poop! haha). So I know that God is providing them with everything that they need. And because of that, they keep on thriving.

God tells us that WE are worth even more than that to Him. Therefore, he will provide for us too! He will make sure that all of our needs are met. If it’s love we’re looking for, he will sustain our hearts with a love for him that will contain us until/unless he decides to add someone of value to our life. So we need to stop diminishing our worth and learn to keep on thriving. Stop reducing your worth because of society, insecurities, bad relationships, mistakes, heartbreak and so forth. God sees you as valuable dear. It is time for you to accept that and walk in that. Thrive on!
