Have you ever had a professional massage?  I had my first massage on Saturday, October 25th, one day after my birthday.  The week had been very stressful for me.  I was dealing with some personal struggles and family struggles all at the same time.  I couldn’t even enjoy my birthday celebrations with friends and family because of all the weight that I had been carrying around.

To force myself to relax, I decided to schedule a massage at a local Massage Envy. If you have never had a professional massage, I would highly encourage you to do so.  It was probably the best massage I had ever had in my life, except that I couldn’t fully enjoy it.

As the masseuse was telling me to relax, I was overcome with emotion.  I found myself crying underneath the towel that was placed on my face.

Who cries during a massage?  Yeah, that would be me. However, it wasn’t tears of pain.  It was tears of worship.  You see, it was during that massage, that God met me right where I was and began to speak to my heart and spirit.

There were three main areas that the masseuse told me were the most tense.

First, were my shoulders.   I mean after carrying around the weight of a stressful week, depression and other things, how could I not be tense? But, as she massaged my shoulders, I could hear God say, “Videllia, you’re trying to carry too much.  These things that you’ve allowed yourself to be burdened with were not meant for you to carry at all.  Cast your cares on me. Release this all to me. Stop carrying around this extra weight that you were never intended to carry around. You have to let it go. Let it go and trust in me.” Then God gave me this scripture – Matthew 11:28-30 which says,” 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV).

And if that wasn’t enough, the masseuse began to focus on my neck, another very tense area.  You see the entire week prior to the massage, I had

been falling on my face day and night crying out to the Lord.  I couldn’t pray any words, I could only cry.  But I knew that in the midst of my tears, God would hear me. At least I hoped he would hear me.  As she continued to massage my neck, I could hear God whisper to me that it was time for me to lift up my head and my eyes to him for he is the source of my help. It was time that I stopped walking around with my head low, full of sadness and depression, and instead, walk around, in an upright position, having full faith and confidence that Jesus was going to supply all of my needs.

And, still, if that wasn’t enough, the masseuse focused on my legs.  I usually work out my legs most of all, so I knew they were in pretty good shape. However, they were still heavy and tense with the burdens of the week before.  But as I lay on the massage table, God revealed to me that he will continue to strengthen my legs so that I may continue to walk this journey with him.  Yes, it gets hard. Yes, it gets rough.  But HE will provide me with the strength that I need to continue forward, to move forward.

Wow!  After all of those revelations, how can you help but not cry.  God truly met me where I was and he comforted my broken spirit.

Does any of this sound like you today?  Have you been feeling the effects of carrying around a heavy burden this week, this month or this year? Have you been crying out to Jesus everyday, falling to your head, bowing before him only to feel like he’s not hearing you?  Has your walk all of a sudden become staggered because you’re losing strength in your legs that you otherwise would have?

You are not alone my brother and sister.  God wants you to cast those cares on him and let him carry those heavy burdens that your shoulders alone were never equipped to handle. He wants you to get up and raise your head and look to the hills for his help.  He wants to strengthen your legs so that you can continue to walk this Christian journey in full faith and confidence that he will supply everything that you need.

He wants to massage your shoulders, your neck and your legs just as he did mine.

Go enjoy a massage with Jesus on today.

Be blessed loves,

-VDavis
